Volunteers are vital to the success of Greater Cleveland
Habitat for Humanity. Our volunteers provide countless hours of service working in
Construction, at the ReStore, and helping
in our Offices.
How can you make a difference?
Whether you’re an individual, group, student,
skilled in construction or looking for a new experience,
there are many opportunities to get involved. Check
out our Getting
Started page to learn how you can join the
fight to eliminate substandard housing.
Larry Charnas was a friend and long time Cleveland Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
In his 15 years, Larry worked on 11 homes, was a fixture in the ReStore, and was an amazing friend. It was Larry who made sure everything was ready to go when the ReStore opened in the morning. He often went out of his way to bring in donuts for the other volunteers, as well as for the customers. Larry made sure our coffee money was well spent, always careful to get the best deal for the replenished coffee supplies. He also made sure every construction project he worked on was completed with the utmost integrity.
Volunteers will tell you, “It is not finished until Larry says it is finished.” Larry logged in more volunteer hours than anyone in the GCHFH affiliate's history.
He was the recipient of the Leahy Award in 2007, as well as the Cleveland Habitat Volunteer of the Year Award in 2012. Larry was respected by all who knew and worked with him at GCHFH. He will be missed.
Thank you Larry. Heaven is better place today. We are sure you took them all donuts.
