Families — Becoming a Homeowner

What is so important about a Habitat home?

In contributing to the building of their own and other homes, Habitat homeowners gain a sense of hope and pride. They become financially, socially and emotionally invested in themselves and their communities.

How do I get a Habitat home?

To qualify for a Habitat home, you must show:
  • Need for adequate shelter
  • Willingness to Partner
  • Ability to pay

What is required of Habitat homeowners?

Upon approval, families agree to invest 500 hours in house-building, volunteering and training, prior to moving into their new home. Training includes budgeting, financial literacy, homeownership and maintenance. Habitat Partner Families pay closing costs and purchase their finished home through an interest-free, no-profit mortgage. Habitat also requires on-time payment and regular upkeep!

What is the application process?

Families must attend an introductory meeting and complete a full application with interviews, including a description of their current living situation and why they are seeking assistance from Habitat.

***Must be first-time homeowner***

We hand out applications only
